Liverpool’s season has not unfolded as expected. After cruising to the Premier League title last year, the club invested heavily in summer reinforcements. Most pundits installed the Reds as clear favorites to retain their crown.

Initially, Liverpool backed up that belief with consecutive wins over Bournemouth, Newcastle, Arsenal, Burnley, and Everton. However, those performances quietly exposed flaws. Since then, the team's weaknesses have become more apparent, as they have only emerged victorious in two of their last ten league games.

Supporters viewed the chaotic 3–3 draw with Leeds United as the lowest point. Liverpool surrendered both a 2–0 and a 3–2 lead in a game that felt damaging. What followed proved even more alarming.

Salah Interview Changes Narrative

After the match, Mohamed Salah delivered a stunning post-match interview. Despite being an unused substitute, Salah asserted that the club had unfairly dismissed him. He also revealed a serious breakdown in his relationship with manager Arne Slot.

After sitting on the bench for the last three matches, Salah felt publicly scapegoated. He believed Slot’s decision framed him as the core reason behind Liverpool’s poor form. While the comments may briefly damage his legacy, fans remain deeply loyal.

For over a decade, supporters have idolized Salah. That emotional bond with Anfield runs deeper than any connection Slot currently holds with the fanbase.

Slot Faces Weight of Expectations

Slot may be a victim of success. His seamless title win denied him the emotional journey that typically bonds a manager to supporters. Under Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool endured heartbreak before eventual glory. Those shared struggles forged unity between coach, players, and fans.

Many supporters now credit Klopp’s foundation more than Slot’s influence. That narrative gains momentum because Slot’s expensive signings have failed to impress. Their lack of impact has weakened his authority.

Increasingly, speculation suggests that either Slot or Salah may leave. The club hierarchy may view both as more valuable assets outside the club than within it.

A Club at a Dangerous Crossroads

Should Slot fail to reverse the slump, his position becomes untenable. His pressure existed before Salah’s interview, but the fallout intensified it. Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League interest could tempt Liverpool to cash in on Salah before further decline.

Slot’s challenge goes beyond tactics. He cannot become the manager who forces out a club legend. Even fans who accept Salah’s eventual departure remain emotionally tied to him.

If results recover, this outburst will fade into trivia. If results stagnate, it may become the spark that accelerates Slot’s collapse at Anfield.
